A club born of Constantinople

AEK was founded on 13 April 1924 by Greek refugees from Constantinople, who settled in Athens after the Greco-Turkish War. The name means Athletic Union of Constantinople. The double-headed eagle comes from Byzantine tradition, and it gives the club its nickname Dikefalos.

European firsts

In 1968–69 AEK became the first Greek club to reach the quarter-finals of the European Cup. In 1976–77 they went further in the UEFA Cup, becoming the first Greek side to reach a semi-final. Our AEK Athens Retro Football Shirt brings back the yellow shirt of that era, with no modern sponsor or manufacturer logos.
