The red diamond on a white shirt is one of the most distinctive designs Scottish football has produced. At TOFFS we recreate retro Airdrieonians shirts from the original club, which played in Airdrie from 1878 until it folded in 2002. Our classic Airdrieonians kits are handcrafted in the UK from 100% cotton, with no modern sponsor or manufacturer logos.

Excelsior to Airdrieonians

The club was founded in 1878 under the name Excelsior and became Airdrieonians in 1881. From 1892 they played at Broomfield Park, their home for more than a century. In 1912 the club adopted the white shirt with a red diamond, and the design gave the team its nickname, the Diamonds.

The great side of the 1920s

The 1920s were the most successful years in the club’s history. Hughie Gallacher signed in 1921, and Bob McPhail was another key figure. In 1924 Airdrieonians beat Hibernian 2–0 to win the Scottish Cup, the biggest honour the club ever won. The end of the original club

After leaving Broomfield in 1994, the club played at the Excelsior Stadium from 1998, but financial trouble caught up with it and the original Airdrieonians folded on 1 May 2002. A new club, Airdrie United, was formed after Clydebank was bought and moved to the town, and in 2013 it took the Airdrieonians name. Our shirts celebrate the original club and its famous diamond.

Is this the same club that plays in Airdrie today?+

The original Airdrieonians, founded in 1878, folded in 2002. The current club was formed that year as Airdrie United and took the Airdrieonians name in 2013. Our shirts celebrate the original club.
