How the Pumas got their name

Argentina played their first Test in 1910, against a touring British Isles team in Buenos Aires. The Pumas nickname dates from the 1965 tour of Rhodesia and South Africa, the team’s first overseas tour, and came from a South African journalist’s error. The big cat on the badge is actually a jaguar.

On the world stage

At the 2007 World Cup Argentina went unbeaten through their pool, reached the semi-finals for the first time and beat France to finish third. They joined The Rugby Championship in 2012. Our Argentina 1982-85 Vintage Rugby Shirt takes its inspiration from an earlier era of Pumas rugby.
