Bangu are one of Brazilian football’s great pioneer clubs, and their red and white carry more than a century of Rio history. At TOFFS we make retro Bangu shirts inspired by the classic Bangu kits of the club’s proudest years. Each one is handcrafted in the UK from 100% cotton, with no modern sponsor or manufacturer logos.

The factory team

The club was founded on 17 April 1904 at the Fábrica Bangu, a textile mill in Rio de Janeiro. British workers at the factory, Thomas Donohoe among them, had already been organising matches in the area, and the club grew from those games. Its roots earned it the nickname “Time de Fábrica”, the Factory Team, and it has also long been known as “O Castor”, the Beaver.

Carioca champions

Bangu won the Campeonato Carioca in 1933 and again in 1966, when they beat Flamengo 3–0 at the Maracanã in front of more than 120,000 people. Our Bangu 1966 Retro Football Shirt is named for that famous year. In 1985 the club went on to finish runner-up in the Campeonato Brasileiro, earning a place in the Copa Libertadores.
