Retro Birmingham City Shirts

Birmingham City have worn blue since the club’s earliest days, which is where the Blues nickname comes from. Our retro Birmingham City shirts recreate classic Birmingham City kits from the 1950s to the 1970s. Each is handcrafted in the UK from 100% cotton, with no modern sponsor or manufacturer logos.

Small Heath to St Andrew’s

The club was founded in 1875 as Small Heath Alliance, becoming Small Heath in 1888, Birmingham in 1905 and Birmingham City in 1943. St Andrew’s opened on Boxing Day 1906, with volunteers clearing snow from the pitch and terraces before the first game. The early teams wore whatever blue shirts they had, eventually settling on royal blue.

Cup finals and European nights

The Blues reached the 1956 FA Cup Final, and in 1960 became the first English club side to reach a major European final, in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. They reached the final again in 1961. The first major trophy followed in 1963, when Birmingham beat Aston Villa 3–1 on aggregate to win the League Cup. The Trevor Francis years

Trevor Francis broke into the Birmingham side as a teenager in 1970 and became one of the finest forwards of his generation. In 1979 he became the first footballer transferred for £1 million.
