No club in England is as closely tied to one colour as Blackpool. Our retro Blackpool shirts recreate classic Blackpool kits in that bright tangerine, from the great side of the 1950s to the 1970s. Each is handcrafted in the UK from 100% cotton, with no modern sponsor or manufacturer logos.

Why tangerine?

Blackpool were founded in 1887 and wore several colours in their early years. Tangerine arrived for the 1923–24 season, on the recommendation of referee Albert Hargreaves, who had officiated an international between the Netherlands and Belgium. It has been the club’s colour ever since, giving the Seasiders their other nickname, the Tangerines.

The Matthews Final

The 1950s were Blackpool’s most successful decade. In the 1953 FA Cup Final they came from 3–1 down late on to beat Bolton Wanderers 4–3, a match remembered as the “Matthews Final” after Stanley Matthews. Our Blackpool 1953 FA Cup Final Retro Football Shirt celebrates that afternoon. In 1955–56 the club finished runners-up in the First Division, its highest league finish.

Why do Blackpool play in tangerine?+

Tangerine was adopted for the 1923–24 season after a recommendation from referee Albert Hargreaves, who had officiated an international between the Netherlands and Belgium.

What was the Matthews Final?+

The 1953 FA Cup Final, in which Blackpool came from 3–1 down to beat Bolton Wanderers 4–3. It is named after Blackpool’s Stanley Matthews.
