Amber and black are the colours most supporters link with the U’s. At TOFFS we make retro Cambridge United shirts and classic Cambridge United kits that recall the club’s early Football League years, each handcrafted in the UK from 100% cotton.

From Abbey United to the U’s

The club was founded in 1912 as Abbey United and moved to the Abbey Stadium in 1932. It took the name Cambridge United in 1951. In 1970 the U’s were elected to the Football League, taking the place of Bradford Park Avenue.

Amber, black and white

Cambridge have traditionally worn amber and black at home, in a range of designs. There were two spells in white, from 1957 to 1960 and from 1970 to 1972, before the club returned to its traditional colours. Our Cambridge United 1969-1971 Retro Football Shirt comes from the years either side of that League election, with no modern sponsor or manufacturer logos.

The club went on to win the Fourth Division in 1976–77 and the Third Division in 1991, and reached the Second Division play-offs in 1992.

Why do Cambridge United wear amber and black?+

Amber and black are the club’s traditional home colours. Cambridge wore white from 1957 to 1960 and from 1970 to 1972, but returned to amber and black each time.

The club was founded in 1912 as Abbey United and became Cambridge United in 1951.

Unpersonalised shirts can be returned within 14 days. Personalised shirts are made to order, so they can’t be returned unless faulty.
