Royal blue is at the heart of Chelsea’s story, but the club’s very first shirts were a much lighter shade. Our retro Chelsea shirts cover the early Stamford Bridge years and the side that won the league in 1955. Every classic Chelsea kit we make is handcrafted in the UK from 100% cotton, with no modern sponsor or manufacturer logos.

Stamford Bridge, 1905

Chelsea were founded in 1905 at the Rising Sun pub, opposite Stamford Bridge, to give the stadium a team. In that first season they wore Eton blue, a nod to club president the Earl Cadogan, an Old Etonian. The club later moved to the royal blue that has defined them ever since. Our Chelsea 1905 Retro Shirt goes right back to the beginning.

Champions in 1955

Chelsea won their first league title in 1954–55, fifty years after the club was formed. Our Chelsea 1955 Champions Retro Football Shirt marks that season, and the Chelsea 1957 Retro Football Shirt follows soon after. The first FA Cup came in 1970, followed by the European Cup Winners’ Cup a year later.

Why did Chelsea first play in light blue?+

Chelsea wore Eton blue in their first season in 1905, as club president the Earl Cadogan was an Old Etonian. Royal blue came later.

Chelsea were champions for the first time in the 1954–55 season, fifty years after the club was founded.

Unpersonalised shirts can be returned within 14 days. Personalised shirts are made to order, so they can’t be returned unless faulty.
