The 1980s

The national team played its first international against Finland in Helsinki in 1952. Football grew fast in China during the 1980s. The side came close to the 1982 World Cup, losing a play-off to New Zealand, and were Asian Cup runners-up in 1984. Our China 1982 Retro Football Shirt comes from that period.

A first World Cup

China finally reached the World Cup in 2002, the first tournament held in Asia. Two years later they hosted the Asian Cup and reached the final again.
