Cobresal are one of South American football’s great underdog stories: a club from a mining camp high in the Atacama Desert that became champions of Chile. Our Cobresal range celebrates the retro Cobresal shirts and classic Cobresal kits of the Mineros, in the orange, white and green that tell the club’s story.

A club from the copper mines

Cobresal was founded on 5 May 1979 in El Salvador, a copper mining town in Chile’s Atacama Region, and plays at the Estadio El Cobre. The first kit was green, a colour said to represent raw copper. In 1982 the home kit became white and orange, the orange standing for copper being processed and the white for the salt flats of the region. Green returned to the club’s kits in 2012.

The Desert’s Miracle

Cobresal won the Copa Chile in 1987, with a young Iván Zamorano scoring in the final against Colo-Colo. Their greatest day came on 26 April 2015, when a 3–2 win over Barnechea sealed the Clausura title and a place in the Copa Libertadores. Little wonder the club is also known as El Milagro del Desierto, the Desert’s Miracle.

Why do Cobresal wear orange?+

The home kit became white and orange in 1982. The orange represents copper being processed, and the white represents the salt flats around the club’s home town of El Salvador.

Why are Cobresal called the Miners?+

The club was founded in 1979 in the copper mining camp of El Salvador in Chile’s Atacama Region, and it has always been closely tied to the mine.

Unpersonalised shirts can be returned within 14 days. Personalised shirts are made to order, so they can’t be returned unless faulty.
