From Singers to Coventry City

The club began in 1883 as Singers FC, founded at a meeting of the Singer Gentleman’s club, and took the name Coventry City in 1898. A year later it moved to Highfield Road, home for 106 years. Our Coventry City 1960-1962 Retro Football Shirt comes from the years just before the club’s great transformation.

The Sky Blue revolution

Sky blue returned in 1962 under manager Jimmy Hill, and the Sky Blues nickname has stuck ever since. Hill’s side won the Third Division in 1963–64 and the Second Division in 1966–67, taking Coventry into the top flight. The Coventry City 1968-1969 Retro Football Shirt and Coventry City 1975-1978 Retro Football Shirt follow on from those years.

Wembley, 1987
