One shilling and eight pence

The club was founded in 1893 when Lorraine Wilson, known to all as ‘Pa’, was handed one shilling and eight pence and asked to start a Dulwich Hamlet Football Club. Over the next three decades he built it into one of the strongest sides in amateur football.

Kings of amateur football

Between the wars Dulwich won the FA Amateur Cup four times, in 1920, 1932, 1934 and 1937, and were Isthmian League champions in 1920, 1926 and 1933. Edgar Kail scored 427 goals for the club, including 53 in 1925–26, and goalkeeper Bert Coleman won a full England cap in 1921. The first Champion Hill opened in 1931 and became known as the mecca of amateur football.
