Flamengo call themselves O Mais Querido, the Most Beloved, and their red-and-black hoops are known throughout the football world. Our retro Flamengo shirts are inspired by the classic Flamengo kits of the 1960s, handcrafted in the UK from 100% cotton with no modern sponsor or manufacturer logos.

From rowing club to football giant

Flamengo was founded as a rowing club on 17 November 1895. Football arrived in 1911, when a group of players left Fluminense after a dispute and joined Flamengo. The first football kit of 1912 was quartered in red and black. In 1913 it gave way to a striped shirt with thin white bands, nicknamed the “cobra coral” after the coral snake.

The 1960s hoops

In time Flamengo settled on red-and-black hoops with white shorts, the rowing club’s own colours. Our Flamengo 1960s Retro Football Shirt and the Flamengo 1960s Short Sleeve Retro Football Shirt carry that famous design, with a simple collar and cuffs.

Zico and 1981

Zico scored 508 goals for Flamengo, and in 1981 he led the club to the Copa Libertadores and a 3–0 win over Liverpool in the Intercontinental Cup in Tokyo. Why do Flamengo wear red and black?+

Red and black were the colours of the Flamengo rowing club. The football team, formed in 1911, took them on and settled on red-and-black hoops.

What was the cobra coral shirt?+

Introduced in 1913, it was a shirt of red and black stripes with thinner white bands, nicknamed after the coral snake.

What sizes do the Flamengo shirts come in?+

Unpersonalised shirts can be returned within 14 days. Personalised shirts are made to order, so they can’t be returned unless faulty.
