Maroon, green and white stripes make Fluminense one of the most recognisable clubs in Brazil. At TOFFS we make retro Fluminense shirts inspired by the classic Fluminense kits of the late 1960s and 1970s. Every shirt is handcrafted in the UK from 100% cotton, with no modern sponsor or manufacturer logos.

Oscar Cox’s club

Fluminense was founded on 21 July 1902 by a group of young football enthusiasts led by Oscar Cox, who had discovered the game while studying in Lausanne. The first colours were white and grey, but after a trip to England in 1904 the club adopted its famous stripes of maroon, green and white. Fans call the club Tricolor, Flu and Nense.

The Fla-Flu

In 1911 a group of Fluminense players left after a dispute and formed the football team at Flamengo, giving Rio its greatest derby. Our Fluminense 1968-1973 Retro Football Shirt and the Fluminense 1970s Retro Football Shirt carry the stripes worn in the Fla-Flu across those years.

In 2023 Fluminense beat Boca Juniors 2–1 at the Maracanã to win the Copa Libertadores for the first time. Why do Fluminense wear maroon, green and white?+

The club’s first colours were white and grey, but they were hard to source, and after a trip to England in 1904 Fluminense switched to maroon, green and white stripes.
