An Englishman in Zürich

Grasshopper Club Zürich was founded on 1 September 1886 by Tom E. Griffith, an English student. It is the oldest football club in the city. Nobody knows for sure where the name came from. One popular story credits the early players’ lively goal celebrations.

Record champions

Grasshoppers have won the Swiss title 27 times and the Swiss Cup 19 times, both records. From 1929 to 2007 they played at the Hardturm. Our Grasshoppers 1960s Shirt recalls the halved design of that era.
