The Shaymen

Halifax Town was founded on 24 May 1911 at the Saddle Hotel. In 1921 the club became one of the founder members of the Third Division North and moved to The Shay, where it stayed for the rest of its history. The biggest crowd there was 36,885, against Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup fifth round in February 1953.

Blue, white and a touch of orange

Halifax first played in black and white stripes, but switched to blue and white after the First World War. The 1960s stayed blue and white, and our Halifax Town 1960-1962 Retro Football Shirt comes from the start of that decade. In the 1970s the club tried orange and blue, embroidered its initials on the shirts and wore its first all-white strip. Our Halifax Town 1973-1975 Retro Football Shirt comes from those years. Neither carries modern sponsor or manufacturer logos.

The story continues

Halifax were relegated to the Conference in 1993, came back as champions in 1998 and dropped out of the League again in 2002. The club was dissolved in 2008 and re-formed that July as FC Halifax Town.
