Blue and white have been the colours of Victoria Park for more than a century. Hartlepools United

The club was founded in 1908 as Hartlepools United and has played at Victoria Park ever since. After white shirts in the early years, the team took up blue-and-white stripes in 1912. The name changed to Hartlepool in 1968, following the merger of West Hartlepool and Hartlepool, and to Hartlepool United in 1977.

Clough and Taylor, 1965

In October 1965, aged 30, Brian Clough became manager in his first job in management, with Peter Taylor as his assistant. The pair improved the team before leaving for Derby County, and Clough gave a 16-year-old John McGovern his professional debut. Into the Bukta years

Why were Hartlepool once called Hartlepools United?+

The original name reflected the two towns of Hartlepool and West Hartlepool. After they merged in 1968 the club became Hartlepool, and Hartlepool United followed in 1977.
