Independiente are El Rojo, and their all-red shirt is one of the great sights of Argentine football. Our retro Independiente shirts are inspired by the classic Independiente kits of the club’s golden years. Each one is handcrafted in the UK from 100% cotton, with no modern sponsor or manufacturer logos.

Why red?

Independiente was founded on 1 January 1905 in Avellaneda, just south of Buenos Aires. The club first played in blue and white, but switched to red in 1908. Tradition credits president and goalkeeper Arístides Langone, a great admirer of Nottingham Forest, who had toured Argentina in 1905. Our Independiente Retro Football Shirt keeps that red simple and bold.

The King of Cups

In 1964 Independiente became the first Argentine club to win the Copa Libertadores. They went on to win it seven times in all, including four in a row from 1972 to 1975, a record no other club has matched. They also won the Intercontinental Cup in 1973 and 1984, beating Liverpool in Tokyo in the second. No wonder they are called El Rey de Copas.
