From Barcelona to the Six Nations

Italy played their first Test against Spain in Barcelona on 20 May 1929. The game made enormous progress in Italy during the 1970s and 1980s, helped by overseas players and coaches in the domestic championship. In 2000 Italy joined the Six Nations and won their opening game against reigning champions Scotland, 34–20.
