Italy’s blue shirt is one of the most admired in world football. Our retro Italy shirts recreate the classic Italy kits worn from the post-war years to the World Cups of 1970, 1982 and 1990. Each one is handcrafted in the UK from 100% cotton, with no modern sponsor or manufacturer logos.

Why Italy wear blue

Italy played their first international in Milan in May 1910, beating France 6–2 in white shirts. Within months the white had gone. Blue was first worn against Hungary in January 1911, a shade taken from the royal House of Savoy, and it gave the team its nickname, gli Azzurri. Champions of Europe

In 1968 Italy hosted the European Championship. The final against Yugoslavia in Rome finished 1–1, so it was replayed two days later, and Italy won 2–0. It remains the only time a European Championship or World Cup final has been replayed. The Italy 1968 European Champions Retro Football Shirt marks the occasion.

Mexico 1970 and Spain 1982

Two years later Italy reached the World Cup final in Mexico City, losing 4–1 to a brilliant Brazil side. Our Italy 1970 World Cup Final Retro Football Shirt recalls that day. Why do Italy play in blue?+

The blue comes from the royal House of Savoy, which ruled Italy when the team first wore it in January 1911. It is why the side is called gli Azzurri.

What did Italy wear in their first international?+

Italy wore white shirts when they beat France 6–2 in Milan in May 1910. Blue replaced white the following year.
