The Hatters

Luton Town was founded on 11 April 1885. The Hatters nickname reflects the town’s long connection with hat making, prominent there since the 17th century. The club moved to Kenilworth Road in 1905 and has played there ever since.

From sky blue to orange

Before 1920 Luton mostly wore sky blue shirts with white shorts. White and black then became the club’s colours for much of its history, and it was only at the start of the 1973–74 season that Luton changed to orange, navy and white. Our Luton Town 1970s Retro Football Shirt comes from that decade of change, with no modern sponsor or manufacturer logos.

Wembley days

Luton reached their first major final in 1959, losing the FA Cup final to Nottingham Forest. In 1988 they beat Arsenal 3–2 in the League Cup final, with a penalty save from stand-in goalkeeper Andy Dibble sparking the comeback.
