Claret and amber make Motherwell one of the most recognisable sides in Scotland. At TOFFS we recreate retro Motherwell shirts from the 1960s and early 1970s, in the colours the club has worn since 1913. Claret and amber

Motherwell were founded on 17 May 1886 and have played at Fir Park since 1896. For their early years they wore blue. In 1913 they switched to claret and amber, possibly inspired by Bradford City’s success in the same colours, though another account says they were Lord Hamilton’s racing colours. The nickname, the Steelmen, comes from the town’s steelmaking history.

Champions and cup winners

In 1931–32 Motherwell won the Scottish league, taking 30 wins from 38 games and scoring 119 goals. The League Cup followed in 1950–51 and the Scottish Cup in 1952, with a 4–0 win over Dundee.
