Namibia’s national rugby team is known as the Welwitschias, after the hardy plant of the Namib Desert. Our retro Namibia rugby shirts recreate classic Namibia rugby kits, handcrafted in the UK from 100% cotton with no modern sponsor or manufacturer logos.

Early days

Before independence the country played as South West Africa, meeting the British & Irish Lions in Windhoek in July 1955. After independence in 1990 Namibia soon made their mark, and in 1991 they won home series against both Ireland and Italy 2–0.

World Cup, 1999

Namibia reached their first Rugby World Cup in 1999, where they met France, Fiji and Canada in the pool stage. They qualified for every tournament from then until 2023. Our Namibia 1999 Rugby Shirt and Namibia 1999 Away Rugby Shirt take their name from that first campaign.
