Black and white stripes are the badge of the Magpies, worn at St James’ Park since the 1890s. Our retro Newcastle shirts take you back to the champions of the 1920s. Every classic Newcastle kit we make is handcrafted in the UK from 100% cotton, with no modern sponsor or manufacturer logos.

Why black and white?

Newcastle United took their name in 1892, and early sides wore red. So many clubs in the Second Division also played in red that the committee switched to black and white stripes for the 1894–95 season. The stripes have been the club’s look ever since.

Champions in 1927

Captained by Hughie Gallacher, Newcastle won the league title in 1926–27. Our Newcastle United 1927 League Champions Retro Shirt celebrates that season. From the same decade comes the Newcastle 1920s Away Retro Football Shirt. The 1950s brought three FA Cups in five seasons, and the Fairs Cup followed in 1969.

Why do Newcastle wear black and white stripes?+

Early Newcastle sides wore red, but so many Second Division clubs also played in red that the club switched to black and white stripes for the 1894–95 season.

Scottish centre-forward Hughie Gallacher captained the side that won the league in 1926–27.
