North Korea were based in the north-east of England for their group matches. At Ayresome Park, Middlesbrough, Pak Doo-ik scored the only goal as they beat Italy 1–0. It remains one of the great shocks in World Cup history, and it sent the team through to the quarter-finals.

Goodison Park

In the quarter-final at Goodison Park, North Korea raced into a 3–0 lead against Portugal. Eusébio then scored four goals, and Portugal won 5–3. Our North Korea 1966 World Cup shirt is a reminder of a remarkable run. The team did not return to the World Cup finals until 2010, in South Africa.
