The Cobblers

The club was founded in 1897 and played at the County Ground, which it shared with cricket, for almost a century. The Cobblers nickname is a nod to the town’s long history of shoe-making, and claret and white have been the traditional colours.

Up and down

Between 1960 and 1965 Northampton won three promotions, rising from the Fourth Division to the First. They spent 1965–66 in the top flight, then fell just as quickly, returning to the Fourth Division by 1969–70. Going from the fourth tier to the first and back in nine years is a record in English football. Our Northampton Town 1964-1967 Retro Football Shirt comes from the heart of that journey.

A new home
