Notts County are the oldest professional football club in the world, and their black-and-white stripes have travelled further than most. The oldest of them all

The club traces its roots to 1862 and was formally organised in December 1864. In 1888 it was one of the 12 founder members of the Football League, and in 1890 the team first wore black-and-white stripes. Four years later Notts beat Bolton Wanderers 4–1 at Goodison Park to become the first Second Division side to win the FA Cup. Our Notts County 1961-1962 Centenary Retro Football Shirt marks a hundred years since 1862.

Stripes for Turin

In the early 1900s an English player at one of Turin’s clubs arranged for a Notts-supporting friend to send over a new set of kits. They were Notts County’s black-and-white stripes, and the Turin side has worn black and white ever since.

Lawton and Meadow Lane

Meadow Lane has been home since 1910. In 1947 Notts paid £20,000, then a British transfer record, to sign England forward Tommy Lawton.
