Green and white are the colours of Palmeiras, the Alviverde of São Paulo. Our retro Palmeiras shirts are inspired by the classic Palmeiras kits of the 1960s, when the team played football so fluent it was called the Academy. Every shirt is handcrafted in the UK from 100% cotton, with no modern sponsor or manufacturer logos.

From Palestra Itália to Palmeiras

The club was founded on 26 August 1914 as Palestra Itália by Italian immigrants in São Paulo. When Brazil joined the Allies in the Second World War, the club changed its name, and on 14 September 1942 it became Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras.

The Academia

In the 1960s Palmeiras were led by the elegant Ademir da Guia, with players such as Djalma Santos, Julinho Botelho and Vavá in the side. Their passing game earned them the nickname Academia. Our Palmeiras 1960s Retro Football Shirt carries the green of that great team.

The club was founded by Italian immigrants, and it changed its name in 1942 after Brazil joined the Allies against Italy in the Second World War.

Why were the 1960s Palmeiras team called the Academy?+

The side led by Ademir da Guia played such fluent, passing football that it was nicknamed the Academia.
