Green, white and the shamrock

The club was founded in Athens in 1908 by Giorgos Kalafatis and first wore white and red. It switched to green and white in 1910, and in 1918 adopted the shamrock as its emblem, a symbol of unity and good luck. The shamrock gives the club its nickname, Trifylli.

Wembley, 1971

In 1971, with Ferenc Puskás as manager, Panathinaikos became the first Greek club to reach the European Cup final. They lost 2–0 to Ajax at Wembley, but the run remains a proud moment. Our Panathinaikos 1970s Retro Football Shirt comes from that decade.
