White shirts and black shorts are the classic Port Vale look, but the Valiants have tried plenty of colours over the years. At TOFFS we recreate retro Port Vale shirts from the early 1960s at Vale Park. Our classic Port Vale kits are handcrafted in the UK from 100% cotton, with no modern sponsor or manufacturer logos.

The valley of ports

Port Vale take their name from the valley of ports along the Trent and Mersey Canal. The club gives 1876 as its founding year, though historian Jeff Kent’s research suggests 1879. The Valiants nickname was adopted around 1920.

A changing kit

Vale settled on white and black in 1921, then wore red shirts and white shorts from 1923 until 1934. They returned to white and black, tried gold and black designs between 1958 and 1963, then went back to black and white. Vale Park

Vale Park opened in 1950 and was originally planned as a vast stadium. Four years later came one of the club’s finest seasons: the Third Division North title and a run to the FA Cup semi-finals, where they lost to eventual winners West Bromwich Albion. Have Port Vale always worn black and white?+

No. Vale wore red shirts from 1923 to 1934 and gold and black designs between 1958 and 1963, but white and black has been their usual look since 1921.
