Senegal’s Lions of Teranga have given African football some of its most memorable moments. We don’t currently make retro Senegal shirts, but the story behind classic Senegal kits is well worth telling, and you can still show your colours.

Lions of Teranga

Senegal played their first international on 31 December 1961, losing 3–2 to Dahomey, now Benin. The team is known as the Lions of Teranga. Teranga is a Wolof word for hospitality, a quality Senegal is proud of. The home kit is traditionally white, with green as the change colour.

2002 and beyond

Senegal’s first World Cup, in 2002, began with a shock. In the opening match they beat the holders France 1–0. They went on to reach the quarter-finals, where they lost to Turkey. In 2021 Senegal won their first Africa Cup of Nations, beating Egypt on penalties in the final.
