Stripes to hoops

Shamrock Rovers’ roots lie in the Ringsend area of Dublin, and the club registered with the Leinster Football Association in 1901. Rovers first wore green and white stripes, switching in 1926 to the hooped design inspired by Belfast Celtic. That same year they moved to Glenmalure Park in Milltown, their home until 1987.

Coad’s Colts

In 1949 Paddy Coad introduced a youth policy, signing virtually the entire schoolboy international side. His team won three league titles and two FAI Cups during the 1950s, and in 1957 Rovers became the first Irish team to play in European competition, in the European Cup.
