Blue and white are the colours of Southend United, the club of the Essex seaside. At TOFFS we recreate retro Southend United shirts from the 1960s at Roots Hall. Our classic Southend United kits are handcrafted in the UK from 100% cotton, with no modern sponsor or manufacturer logos.

The Blue Boar

Southend United were founded on 19 May 1906 at the Blue Boar Hotel, where landlord Oliver Trigg had invited footballers and businessmen to discuss a new professional club. The club joined the Football League’s new Third Division in 1920. The Shrimpers nickname reflects the area’s maritime heritage.

Roots Hall

The club’s first home was also called Roots Hall. After spells at the Kursaal and Southend Stadium, the club opened the present Roots Hall in 1955, with the first match on 20 August. The nickname reflects the maritime heritage of Southend and the Essex coast.

When did Southend United move to Roots Hall?+

The present Roots Hall opened in 1955, with the first match on 20 August. The club’s very first home, from 1906, had also been called Roots Hall.
