Green and the lion

Sporting Clube de Portugal was founded in Lisbon on 1 July 1906. From the start the club chose green, with a rampant lion as its emblem, which is why the team is known as Os Leões, the Lions.

Stromp and the hoops

An early design of green and white vertical halves is named after Francisco Stromp, one of the club’s founders, and still returns as an alternative kit. The famous horizontal hoops were inspired by the kit of Sporting’s rugby team. Our Sporting Lisbon 1930s Retro Football Shirt takes you back to those early years.
