Founder members

Stoke were among the twelve founder members of the Football League in 1888. For more than a century home was the Victoria Ground, until the move to a new stadium in 1997. Our Stoke City 1940s Retro Football Shirt goes back to the post-war years.

Sir Stanley

Stanley Matthews, born in nearby Hanley, came home to Stoke in 1961 at the age of 46. In 1965 he became the first footballer to be knighted while still playing. Our Stoke City Stan Matthews 1961 Retro Football Shirt honours his return.

Wembley, 1972

Stoke beat Chelsea 2–1 at Wembley in 1972 to win the League Cup, the club’s first major trophy, with George Eastham scoring the winner. Our Stoke City 1972 League Cup Retro Football Shirt celebrates the day, and there is a kids’ version in our kids’ range.
