Red has been Swindon Town’s colour since 1901, and it gave the club its nickname. At TOFFS we recreate retro Swindon Town shirts from the 1960s and 1970s at the County Ground. Our classic Swindon Town kits are handcrafted in the UK from 100% cotton, with no modern sponsor or manufacturer logos.

Why the Robins?

The club was founded in 1879 and took the Swindon Town name in 1883. Early kits were black and white, then black and red quarters. A green kit tried in 1897 proved impractical because of dye problems, and red arrived in 1901. The Robins nickname comes from the red shirts.

Wembley, 1969

Swindon’s greatest day came in 1969, when they beat Arsenal 3–1 in the League Cup final at Wembley. Don Rogers scored twice. Our Swindon Town 1960s Retro Football Shirt looks back to that decade, and there’s a Swindon Town 1960s Kids Retro Football Shirt too.

Into the 1970s and beyond

The Swindon Town 1974-1975 Retro Football Shirt and the Swindon Town 1974-75 Kids Retro Football Shirt take the story into the mid-1970s. Later, Glenn Hoddle’s side beat Leicester City 4–3 in the 1993 play-off final to reach the top flight for the first time.

The nickname comes from the red shirts the club has worn since 1901, after the robin’s old name of redbreast.
