Early years

Switzerland played their first international in Paris in February 1905, losing 1–0 to France. At the 1924 Olympics, also in Paris, they reached the final and won silver after losing 3–0 to Uruguay. The team has worn red and white throughout its history, and is known at home as the Nati.

Hosts in 1954
