Third Lanark are one of the great lost clubs of Scottish football. At TOFFS we recreate retro Third Lanark shirts from the 1950s and early 1960s, some of the club’s last good years before it folded in 1967. Our classic Third Lanark kits are handcrafted in the UK from 100% cotton, with no modern sponsor or manufacturer logos.

The Rifle Volunteers

The club was formed on 12 December 1872 as the football team of the 3rd Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteers. The soldiers had been inspired by the first international match, played two weeks earlier. The club was known as Thirds, the Warriors, the Redcoats and the Hi-Hi. In 1903 it moved into Queen’s Park’s former Hampden Park, renamed New Cathkin Park.

Champions and cup winners

Third Lanark won the Scottish Cup in 1889 and 1905, and the league title in 1903–04. In 1959–60 they reached the League Cup Final, losing to Hearts. In 1960–61 they scored 100 goals in the league, reaching the century with a 6–1 win over Hibernian and finishing third. Our Third Lanark 1950-1957 Retro Football shirt and Third Lanark 1957-1962 Retro Football Shirt come from those years.

The end at Cathkin

Mismanagement brought the club down, and a winding-up order was issued in June 1967. Younger fans can choose the Third Lanark 1957-62 Kids Retro Football Shirt from our kids’ range.
