The Washington Diplomats brought NASL soccer to the American capital, and for one season Johan Cruyff wore their colours. Our retro Washington Diplomats shirts and classic Washington Diplomats kits recall a club that played mostly in red, white and blue.

RFK Stadium

The Diplomats joined the NASL in 1974 and made Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium their main home, with indoor games at the neighbouring D.C. Armory. The club’s colours were red, white and blue for most of its life, with black replacing blue for a time in the late 1970s.

Cruyff in Washington

In 1980 the Diplomats signed Johan Cruyff from the Los Angeles Aztecs. It proved to be the club’s last season: after heavy losses, the original Diplomats folded in November 1980. The name returned in 1981, when the Detroit Express moved to Washington, but that team lasted only one season.

Wear the Diplomats

Our Washington Diplomats Retro Football Shirt has a V-neck and tape across the shoulders and down the sleeves, with a number 14 on the front, back and sleeve. Discover more in our North American club shirts.
