White and black

West Germany played their first match in 1950, against Switzerland, soon after the German FA was readmitted to FIFA. The team wore white shirts and black shorts, colours taken from the old flag of Prussia. Four years later, in the 1954 World Cup final in Bern, they beat a Hungary side that had been unbeaten for 32 matches. It became known as the Miracle of Bern.

Wembley, Munich and Rome

West Germany lost the 1966 World Cup final to England at Wembley after extra time, remembered by the 1966 World Cup Final England v West Germany Retrotext T-Shirt. They won the 1972 European Championship, and in 1974 beat the Netherlands 2–1 in Munich to win the World Cup at home, marked by the 1974 World Cup Final West Germany v Netherlands Retrotext T-shirt. In 1990 Andreas Brehme’s penalty beat Argentina in Rome, as celebrated by the 1990 World Cup Final West Germany v Argentina Retrotext T-Shirt.
