Chairboys of High Wycombe

Wycombe Wanderers were founded in 1887 at a meeting in the Steam Engine pub on Station Road, High Wycombe, and were most likely named after the Wanderers who won the first FA Cup in 1872. The Chairboys nickname reflects the town’s long history of chair-making. From 1895 the club played at Loakes Park, before moving to Adams Park in 1990.

Amateur Cup to Football League

In April 1931 Wycombe won the FA Amateur Cup, beating Hayes 1–0 at Highbury. Our Wycombe Wanderers 1974-1977 Retro Football Shirt comes from the club’s later non-league years. Under Martin O’Neill, Wycombe won the Conference in 1992–93 and entered the Football League. In 2001 they reached the FA Cup semi-finals, losing 2–1 to Liverpool at Villa Park.
