Our retro Manchester Reds shirts follow the club from its first FA Cup to the great European night at Wembley in 1968. From Newton Heath to red

The club began in 1878 as Newton Heath, formed by railway workers in east Manchester. In 1902, facing bankruptcy, it was rescued, renamed and moved into red shirts. The first FA Cup followed in 1909, marked by our Manchester Reds 1909 FA Cup Final Retro Football Shirt.

Cup final years

The club won the FA Cup again in 1948, beating Blackpool 4–2, celebrated in our Manchester Reds 1948 FA Cup Final Retro Football Shirt. Wembley, 1968

With both sides usually in red, the team wore blue to beat Benfica 4–1 after extra time and become the first English winners of the European Cup. Why did the team wear blue in the 1968 European Cup Final?+

Both the club and opponents Benfica played in red, so the side changed to blue for the final at Wembley and won 4–1 after extra time.

When did the club start wearing red?+

In 1902, when Newton Heath was rescued from bankruptcy, renamed and moved into red shirts, white shorts and black socks.
